Ricardo Dos Santos is a professional athlete who has competed at multiple international sporting events. In 2022 he was stopped by nine armed officers of the Met Police who attempted to break into his vehicle before they had even said a word to him. They were physically aggressive until he pointed out his car, a Tesla, was recording four separate camera angles of the stop.

In this Byline TV exclusive, Ricardo shares the video with Byline TV and takes MP Dawn Butler through the footage moment by moment to explain what the police did wrong during the stop. He describes why he believes he was targeted because of his race after police officers did not signal for him to stop until one, as can be seen in the footage, looked into the window as they drove past and saw a young black man at the wheel.

This latest stop was just one of many Ricardo has been subjected to, and he now has four separate cases against the police, the first of which has been successful in court. He has gone on to use the money he won to set up “4TheVoiceless” a new charity aimed at helping other ethnic minority people who find themselves in similar situations.

Top interview, well done Ricardo. One day… this might all be behind people of colour. Like your lottery analogy..We can hope!

Brilliant interviewee Dawn. So glad that I have never had to experience anything as terrifying as that.
